Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

  • Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
  • The official journey of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on 12th March 2021 and will end post a year on 15th August 2023.
  • It is being celebrated in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari (People's participation) and Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India).
  • Many initiatives both within and outside the country have been taken up including Har Ghar Tiranga, Vande Bharatam, Kalanjali.

AzadikaamritMahotsavPradhanmantri Sangrahalaya

  • The Sangrahalaya tells the story of India after Independence through the lives and contributions of its Prime Ministers.

Installation of statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

  • In order to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the government has decided to install a grand statue of Bose at India Gate.
  • The 28-foot-tall statue, made of granite, is one of the largest, most lifelike, monolithic, and hand-crafted sculptures in India.

Celebration of ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’

  • The 75th ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ was celebrated in Telangana on 17th September 2022 to revive the history of the great war of liberation from the Raj of Nizam and revive the tales of anonymous martyrs.

Har Ghar Tiranga (HGT) campaign and Tiranga Utsav

  • Har Ghar Tiranga campaign was inaugurated to encourage people to hoist/display the National Flag at their homes to celebrate the 75th year of India’s independence.
  • Ministry of Culture organized Tiranga Utsav, an evening filled with cultural and musical performances on the occasion of 146thBirth Anniversary of Pingali Venkayya (who designed the original flag).

India International Centre for Buddhist Culture

  • Mr. Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for construction of India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage at Lumbini, Nepal on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima in presence of Prime Minister of Nepal, Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba.
  • The Centre is funded by the Ministry of Culture and is being constructed by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), a grantee body of the Ministry.
  • It will be a modern building, net zero compliant in terms of energy, water and waste handling, and will house prayer halls, meditation centers, library and other amenities.

Mangarh Dham ki Gaurav Gath

  • Mangarh Dham ki Gaurav Gatha at Mangarh Hill, Banswara, Rajasthan, is public programme to pay homage to the sacrifices of the unsung tribal heroes and martyrs of the freedom struggle.
  • During the programme, the Prime Minister paid homage to Bhil freedom fighter Shri Govind Guru.

BIRTH AND DEATH ANNIVERSARIES

400th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh

  • A grand function was organized at Red Fort, New Delhi on account of end of the one-year commemoration period of the 400th Prakash Parv of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti is celebrated to mark the auspicious occasion of the birth of the Ninth Guru of Sikhism, Guru Tegh Bahadur.
  • He established the town of Anandpur.
  • He opposed the forced conversion of the Hindu Kashmiri Pandits by Mughal ruler Aurangazeb and was persecuted.

Birth Anniversary of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju

  • 125th birth anniversary celebration of legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju was inaugurated in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh.
  • PM unveiled a 30-feet tall bronze statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju on the occasion.
  • Alluri is also referred to as Manyam Veerudu (Jungle Warrior).
  • The Madras Forest Act, 1882 restricted the free movement of the tribal communities and prohibiting them from engaging in their traditional Podu agricultural system.
  • This oppressive order was the beginning of the tribal revolt, also known as the Manyam Rebellion or Rampa Rebellion.
  • Alluri rallied thousands of poor Adviasis and kindled the spirit of freedom among them.

150th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo

  • Sri Aurobindo was born in Calcutta on 15 August 1872.
  • He was the first political leader in India to openly put forward, in his newspaper Bande Mataram, the idea of complete independence.
  • In 1910 he withdrew from politics and went to Pondicherry and evolved a new method of spiritual practice, which he called the Integral Yoga.
  • Its aim is a spiritual realisation that not only liberates man's consciousness but also transforms his nature.
  • In 1926, with the help of his spiritual collaborator, the Mother, he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
  • Among his many writings are The Life Divine, The Synthesis of Yoga and Savitri.

74th Death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

  • On the occasion of the 74th Death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, an all-religion prayer meeting was organized in Gandhi Smriti, the place of Mahatma Gandhi’s Martyrdom.
  • Considered as the father of the country, Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest (satyagraha).
  • He is known for involving in the famous movements such as the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil disobedience movement, Salt Satyagraha, etc.

Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore

  • Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, Brahmo Samaj philosopher, visual artist, playwright, novelist, painter and a composer.
  • He was also a cultural reformer who modified Bengali art by rebuffing the strictures that confined it within the sphere of classical Indian forms.
  • He became the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize for his work ‘Gitanjali’.
  • Apart from Jana Gana Mana (the National Anthem of India), his composition ‘Amar Shonar Bangla’ was adopted as the National Anthem of Bangladesh and the National Anthem of Sri Lanka was inspired by one of his works.
  • He renounced the knighthood received from the British Crown, citing the massacre held at Jallianwala Bagh.

136th birth anniversary of Rash Behari Bose

  • Born in Chandannagar, West Bengal, in 1886, Bose is credited as one of the brains behind the Ghadar mutiny.
  • He was also the mastermind behind the ‘Delhi conspiracy’, an attempt to murder Viceroy Hardinge.
  • In Japan, Bose established the ‘Indian Independence League’ (1942) — an army that would fight for India’s freedom from British rule.
  • He subsequently handed over the reins to Subhas Chandra Bose, who developed it as the Indian National Army or the Azad Hind Fauj.

250th Birth Anniversary of Shri Raja Ram Mohun Roy

  • Raja Ram Mohan Roy is considered as the pioneer of modern Indian Renaissance for his remarkable reforms such as abolition of Sati.
  • In 1828, Ram Mohan Roy formed the Brahmo Samaj, who had no faith in idol-worship and were against the caste restrictions.
  • The title 'Raja' was bestowed upon him by the Mughal emperor Akbar II, in 1831.
  • He brought out a newspaper in Persian called 'Miratul- Akhbar' (the Mirror of News) and a Bengali weekly called 'Sambad Kaumudi' (the Moon of Intelligence).
