International organization is a process by which states create formal structures to promote national interests. The purpose of international organizations is to increase the viability of national states as main actors on the international scene. They are often intergovernmental in nature, and they use techniques of political influence to achieve their objectives. In some cases, they include private members and nongovernmental organizations as well.

Since the end of World War II, the multistate system has experienced radical changes. Among other factors, the introduction of new methods of transport and communication has encouraged the creation of new agencies that facilitate the collaboration of governments. For example, after the war, the International Telegraphic Union and the Universal Postal Union were established. These agencies were designed to coordinate the work of national governments in the information field.

There are hundreds of different International Relations and organizations. Some operate in specialized fields, while others provide specific services. However, almost all of them face the same financial problem. It is difficult for them to generate resources for implementing mandates and meeting their goals.

Nevertheless, international organizations have served a significant role in maintaining world peace. This includes military and peacekeeping missions. Peacekeeping missions consist of inspections, truce supervision, and assistance in negotiations between governments. Other activities include the peaceful use of outer space and the formulation of legal regulations for such use.

In addition to the United Nations Commission, a total of about 100 other international institutions operate outside the UN system. Their mission is to help economically underdeveloped countries develop. Many of these agencies also focus on the prevention of major war.

While the origins of international administration date back only to the nineteenth century, it has undergone a great deal of development in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Public administrative unions were first established for coordination purposes in the nineteenth century. The innovations associated with the growth of industrialism and the introduction of new methods of transport and communication have prompted the creation of special-purpose agencies.

Since the early twentieth century, the United States has remained the leading proponent of international organizations. A key factor in this was the establishment of the League of Nations in 1919. Although the United States participated in the creation of international organizations and Bilateral Relations in a minor way after the Civil War, the United States increased its participation after attending the Hague conferences in 1907.

An important aspect of the development of international organizations is the increasing significance of national states as primary actors in the international scene. States have increasingly relied on membership in International Organizations to strengthen their status.

Despite the efforts of member states to maintain a peaceful environment, conflict continues to occur. Nonetheless, the concept of collective security has been revived from time to time. Ultimately, the ability of international organizations to play a preventive diplomacy role is dependent on the acceptance of great powers.

In the modern era, the United Nations has become one of the most important institutions on the international stage.
