PGS-India’s certification process involves peer-review approach. Farmers play a role in this process. This programme was implemented by Ministry of Agriculture.

FSSAI mandates the food companies selling organic produce to get certified with either the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) or Participatory Guarantee System for India (PGS-India). Certification by any one of the two is sufficient.

An amendment of the Constitution can be initiated only by the introduction of a bill for the purpose in either House of Parliament and not in the state legislatures. The bill can be introduced either by a minister or by a private member.
