Rohingya

·        Rohingya are a Muslim ethnic-minority group who lived in Myanmar for centuries.

·        Despite living for centuries, the Rohingya, have been denied citizenship and rendered stateless.

·        The steady increase in intensity of clashes between the military forces and rohingyas’ resulted in huge influx of refugees in to the nearby countries such as, Bangladesh, India. Etc.

·        India views Rohingyas’ as an illegal immigrants and plans to deport 40,000 rohingyas’ already settled in India.

Effects of failure to settle rohingya

·        Endemic poverty will made Rohingya refugees vulnerable to crime and a grave threat to South Asia’s security.

·        There are genuine fears that, destitute rohingya youth would be easy prey to Pakistan’s ISI and International jihadist outfits.

·        Drug, Human and Cattle trafficking is already in rise with Indo-Bangladesh border.

·        Further population climb to indulge in crimes due to unemployment will increase the spill over.

·        Educating the vulnerable kids & youths and to provide them employment opportunities in order to avoid them from being prey to anti-social elements is very difficult in already stressed countries like South Asian countries.

·        Settlement of rohingyas’ in other country will increase the spate of violence between aboriginals and rohingyas’.

Five point Peace plan

·        Myanmar must stop the violence and the practice of ethnic cleansing in the Rakhine State unconditionally, immediately and forever.

·        The UN Secretary General should immediately send a fact-finding mission to Myanmar.

·        All civilians, irrespective of religion and ethnicity, must be protected in Myanmar. For this, 'safe zones' should be created inside Myanmar under UN supervision.

·        Sustainable return of all forcibly displaced Rohingyas in India and Bangladesh to their homes in Myanmar must be ensured.

·        The recommendations of the Kofi Annan Commission Report must be implemented immediately, unconditionally and entirely.
