• The Indian government is pushing smartphone makers to enable support for its NavIC navigation system in new devices sold in the country from next year.

NavIC navigation system

• NavIC, or Navigation with Indian Constellation, is an independent stand-alone navigation satellite system developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
• Its use is limited. It is being used in public vehicle tracking in India, for providing emergency warning alerts to fishermen venturing into the deep sea.
• Also used for tracking and providing information related to natural disaster and enabling it in smartphones is the next step were India pushing for.

Other Navigation Systems

• Like GPS, there are three more navigation systems that have global coverage –
  • Galileo                 -                  European Union
  • GLONASS           -                  Russia
  • Beidou                 -                  China
  • QZSS                   -                  Japan
• QZSS, operated by Japan, is another regional navigation system covering Asia-Oceania region, with a focus on Japan.z

• The A-G is the Government of India’s first law officer, and has the right of audience in all courts of the country.
• Article 76(2) - It shall be the duty of the Attorney-General to give advice to the Government of India upon such legal matters, and to perform such other duties of a legal character, as may from time to time be referred or assigned to him by the President.
• Article 88 - Attorney-General of India shall have the right to speak in, and otherwise to take part in the proceedings of, either House, any joint sitting of the Houses, and any committee of Parliament of which he may be named a member.
• However, he shall not by virtue of this article be entitled to vote in the House.
• Article 76(1) - A-G is appointed by the President from among persons who are qualified to be appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court.
• Article 76(4) - Attorney-General shall hold office during the pleasure of the President, and shall receive such remuneration as the President may determine.

• NASA's DART spacecraft successfully slammed into a distant asteroid at hypersonic speed in a test of the world's first planetary defence system, designed to prevent a potential doomsday meteorite collision with Earth.

DART Mission

• Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) is the latest of several NASA missions in recent years to explore and interact with asteroids, primordial rocky remnants from the solar system.
• The mission is to determine whether a spacecraft is capable of changing the trajectory of an asteroid through sheer kinetic force, pushing it off to keep our planet out from danger.
• DART, launched by a SpaceX rocket under the guidance of NASA's flight directors.
• OSIRIS-Rex is also a NASA asteroid-study, travelled to near-Earth asteroid Bennu and is bringing a small sample back to Earth for study.

AVGAS 100 LL 

• The Centre launched indigenously-developed AVGAS 100 LL, a special aviation fuel meant for piston engine aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
• The AVGAS 100 LL fuel is a higher-octane Aviation fuel that was developed by Indian Oil Corporation.
• It is a special aviation fuel meant for piston engine aircrafts and Unmanned Ariel Vehicles. 
• It has been certified by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
• It meets the product specifications with superior performance quality standards, as compared to imported grades.
• Currently India is importing this product from European countries.

Khalistan Movement

• It aimed to create an independent state for Sikh people inside the North-Western Republic of India (Punjab).
• Bhindranwale emerged as the extremist voice of Sikhs in the movement.
• Operation Blue Star was conducted to capture Bhindrawale in Harmandir Sahib Complex in order to curb the rising movement.
