WHO certifies Malari-free status. India along with several sub-Saharan countries are yet to achieve the malaria-free status.

• Andaman White-toothed Shrew (Crocidura andamanensis)
• Jenkin's Andaman Spiny Shrew (Crocidura jenkinsi)
• Nicobar White-tailed Shrew (Crocidura nicobarica)
• Kondana Rat (Millardia kondana)
• Large Rock Rat or Elvira Rat (Cremnomys elvira)

In a novel and unique initiative attempted anywhere in the country, the Telangana State Forest Department re-introduced the ‘mouse deer’ into the forests of Nallamalla in Amrabad Tiger Reserve. These animals are nocturnal in habitat and because of their small size they are called ‘smallest ungulates’ too. Also called “Jarini Pandi” in Telugu, their number has been decreasing at an alarming rate in recent years because of destruction of habitat and poaching.

Under the Mission of Integrated Horticulture Development (MIDH), the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers’ Welfare has initiated the project CHAMAN (Coordinated Horticulture Assessment and Management using geoiNfromatics) for assessment and development of Horticulture through Remote Sensing & geo-informatics. The project is being implemented by Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre (MNCFC) in collaboration with ISRO Centres (SAC & NRSC) and 12 state horticulture departments, NHRDF, IMD, ICAR Centre and State Remote Sensing Centres.

This programme envisages use of satellite remote sensing data for area and production estimation of 7 horticultural crops (Potato, Onion, Tomato, Chili, Mango, Banana and Citrus) in 12 major states in 180 districts. The programme also uses GIS (Geographical Information System) tools along with remote sensing data for generating action plans for horticultural development (site suitability, infrastructure development, crop intensification, orchard rejuvenation, aqua-horticulture, etc.). Another component of CHAMAN is to carry out research activities on horticultural crop condition studies, diseases assessment and precision farming.

Office of the Economic Adviser (OEA) is an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The main functions of the Office of Economic Adviser include, inter alia the following :

Policy Functions:

• Economic policy inputs on industrial development.
• Rendering advice relating to formulation of Industrial Policy, Foreign Trade Policy with respect to industrial sector in general with thrust on manufacturing, issues relating to bilateral and multilateral trade, as well as taxes and duties related to industry, including but not restricted to safeguard and anti-dumping duties.
• Analysis of trends of industrial production and growth.
• Examination of multilateral and bilateral issues and processing Policy Notes with economic implications referred to the Office.
• Planning and Gender Budgeting on behalf of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

Statistical Functions

• Compiling and releasing monthly Wholesale Price Indices
• Compiling and releasing monthly Index of Core Industries Production
• Developing other Indices on experimental basis, e.g. select business service price indices
• Supervising as a ‘source agency’, compilation of monthly production statistics for identified industrial items, their validation, and onward transmission for computation of the monthly Index of Industrial Production (IIP) by Central Statistics Office.
• Monthly Statistical compilation of macro indicators (secondary information).

POSHAN Abhiyaan was launched on 8th March 2018 by the Prime Minister in Rajsthan.

The Abhiyaan targets to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anemia (among young children, women and adolescent girls) and reduce low birth weight by 2%, 2%, 3% and 2% per annum respectively.

The target of the mission is to bring down stunting among children in the age group 0-6 years from 38.4% to 25% by 2022.
