• The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) has launched the ‘Samagra Shiksha-Jal Suraksha’ drive to promote water conservation activities for School Students, so that they can become competent, conscientious and committed water citizens of our nation.
• The Department has prepared a detailed outline to implement this programme in all the schools of the country.

 Five Major Objectives:

1. To educate Students learn about conservation of water
2. To sensitize Students about the impact of scarcity of water
3. To empower Students to learn to protect the natural sources of water
4. To help every Student to save at least one litre of water per day
5. To encourage Students towards judicious use and minimum wastage of water at home and school level

• The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), in association with Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and the State Government of Meghalaya organized the 22nd National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2019 on 8-9thAugust, 2019 at Shillong, Meghalaya.
• The theme of this Conference was “Digital India: Success to Excellence”.
• At the valedictory session held recently, ‘Shillong Declaration’ on e-Governance was adopted after intensive deliberations during the sessions held over two days.

• The WTI Awards, since its inception in 2016, has been recognising and celebrating stories of exemplary women from across India.
• The theme for WTI Awards 2019 is “Women and Entrepreneurship”, in continuation with last edition’s theme.
• WTI Awards is a flagship initiative of NITI Aayog. 

• Union Health Ministry has recently decided to provide Rotavirus vaccine to every child across all States and Union Territories by September, 2019.
• Rotavirus vaccine was introduced in 2016 in a phased manner, beginning with 4 States initially and later expanded to 7 more States.
• The vaccine is now available in 28 States/Union Territories.
• It is expected to be available in all 36 States/Union Territories by September 2019.

• Earth’s most recent geomagnetic reversal — a phenomenon where the planet's overall magnetic field flips — took at least 22,000 years to complete.
• This is more than twice than previously thought, according to a study by University of Wisconsin-Madison.
• The magnetic field, which protects the Earth from potentially dangerous solar radiation, last flipped some 770,000 years ago and is named Matuyama-Brunhes after the scientists who discovered it, according to the journal Science Advances.

• Gogabeel, an ox-bow lake in Bihar’s Katihar district, has been declared as the state’s first ‘Community Reserve’.
• Gogabeel is formed from the flow of the rivers Mahananda and Kankhar in the north and the Ganga in the south and east.
• It is the fifteenth Protected Area (PA) in Bihar.

• Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) is a farmer-oriented solar power scheme that will allow setting up grid-connected solar plants in rural areas and off-grid solar pumps.
• It involves decentralized solar power production of up to 28,250 Megawatt (Mw) over five years.
• It aims at boosting farmers’ income by allowing them to sell additional power to the grid through solar plants.
